How Do You Choose A Suitable Bar Stool?

Bar stools are indispensable in today's interior. They are used at the standing or bar table, the kitchen island, the counter, at the bar or in the office. In addition to the style and comfort of the bar stool, the height of both the bar stool and the (bar) table will also be an important factor in choosing the right bar stool. Finding the right bar stools for your kitchen, standing table or bar is therefore a real challenge.
Depending on your user's purpose, the bar stool will have to have the correct height and seat height. Below are therefore a number of tips and things to take into account when purchasing a bar stool.

The correct height of the bar stool
Take the height of the bar or counter (counter, kitchen island, lower bar) height. To determine which bar stool you need, measure the height of the bar, the cooking island, the standing table, etc.

For a comfortable seat, observe the following rule of thumb: The ideal distance between the top of the table or work surface and the top of the seat is between 25 and 30 centimeters. This ensures that you have space left between the bottom of the leaf and your legs (this will be approximately 10 centimeters

The seat height of a fixed bar stool is not adjustable. All the more reason to take good account of the height of the bar stool and the height of the table on which you want to place the bar stool. The seat height of fixed bar stools usually varies between 60 to 82 centimeters (with 65 and 75 cm being the most common seat heights.

1. The counterstool. (Seat height about 65 centimeters)

The (fixed) bar stools with a seat height between 60 and 67 centimeters (usually 65 cm) are also called counterstools or counter bar stools, these are suitable for placing on a kitchen island or lower bar. The ideal height of the top for these bar stools is between 90 and 100 centimeters.

2. Bar stools. (seat height around 75 centimeters)

Bar stools usually have a seat height between 70 and 78 cm (the most common is 75 cm). These bar stools are suitable for placing on a (for example) bar table with a height between 100 and 110 centimeters.

3. Adjustable bar stool

The seat height of an adjustable bar stool can be adjusted to your own needs. Practical for when the bar stool is used by different people or when the bar stool wants to use both on (for example) the kitchen island and at the bar.

How many bar stools do my bar fit?
It is important to ensure that there is enough space between the bar stools so that people can eat, drink and do social work without bumping the elbows. There are a number of rules of thumb to determine how many bar stools you can store at the bar or kitchen island. Generally (normal width) you count for a comfortable seat for each barstool (person) 60 centimeters of space. So as a calculation example, place 5 bar stools at a 3-meter bar (divide 300 cm by 60 cm).

You logically take a little more space for a wide bar stool than for a narrow bar stool and take a little more space, therefore:

If the width of the bar stool is between 40 and 45 cm you expect 53 to 58 cm of space.
If the width of the bar stool is between 46 and 55 cm, you calculate 59 to 64 cm of space.
Keep in mind that you charge more space for a rotating barstool (360 degrees).

Style of the bar stool
In addition to the dimensions of a bar stool, there are of course various other factors that you should take into account when purchasing a bar stool. Do you really want to make a design statement or just a modest seat, the bar stools fit well in the room where you want to place them and what seating comfort should the bar stool have. The answers to this help you to determine which bar stool fits perfectly in your room!
